THINKERTOYS

The assignment was to read "THINKERTOYS" and Chapter One. In the beginning of the reading, in the section "Preface of The New Edition", I found the descriptive writing to be extremely captivating. It compares nature and its effects on Earth to human’s behaviors in society. The opinion on how these two very different objects and how they are similar in comparison was extremely intriguing and opened my eyes to how someone would interpret that. Have you ever thought of people in society being like trees in nature? As I was reading I wasn't completely sure where this story was going but as I continued it states how "the roots of trees, in ways hold together and create the Earth; similar with human behaviors from which patterns blend together to create the person."
After establishing the comparison they were trying to make they continued with the negative effects such as self-destructive patterns and negative self-image.
I specifically chose to write about this reading for the fact that it made me think of something in a different way. I had to open my mind to understand how they could make these comparisons and not be simply restricted to pattern thoughts. One thing about myself is that I like challenging myself to interpret things in multiple ways, whether it is something I read, a picture I've seen or taken, or even just a person’s appearance. So as I'm hearing more during this course I'm interested in seeing how I could include this habit to the class and assignments.
"The one thing that's always in my control is what is going on in my head." This quote stated by Richard Cohen in the article immediately caught my attention and I strongly agree with this statement; Along with those words he continued "he said life is like standing on a rolling ship. You're going to fall and it's a constant challenge to get up and push yourself to keep going. But in the end, he said, the most exhilarating feeling in the world is getting up and moving forward with a smile." I truly admire his words and I'm looking forward to hearing more from him along with many other creative artists.

First day of Comp.

After a somewhat boring morning, college comp class kind of lightened up the mood. I'm a big fan of writing and creativity so I'm pretty excited that this class seems to actually combined the two with a little bit of fun. Prof Morris seems pretty interesting too, I've never had anyone start a class with asking me if I was a kitten or a monkey. I don't know about the rest of you but I was kind of surprised to see she had a reason for it. I believe this will be an interesting class and so far it's off to a good start.
