Cigarette butts are infesting all the grounds of college campus! Take like a three step walk outside your residence building and take a look at the ground. Can you believe how many people just leave their cigarette butts on the ground rather than properly disposing them? While listening to the group of our composition class talks about them tackling the problem of cigarette butts for their semester long project it was quite disturbing how everyone realizes that it is a problem, it is disgusting, and yet they don’t do anything about it. People admit it is an issue and also admit them through theirs on the ground as well. Cigarette butts being thrown on the ground are considered litter. Litter makes our Earth look uncared for and disgusting. Not only does it look gross but littering causes so much harm to wildlife, then environment, and daily lives. People think that it is just one small cigarette butt, what harm could it do? One butt, then another, and another… all these cigarette butts add up and cause a mass pile of litter on the ground. They take a long time to disintegrate or wash away leaving more and more time for them to cause harm to the Earth. I know from just walking simply across campus I could go and pick up most likely over 300 cigarette butts easily. I strongly believe this is a problem and should be taken into more consideration to be fixed. Don’t be lazy, don’t be careless, dispose of your cigarette butts properly. Take those 10 extra steps to the nearest ash tray or garbage can. The group mentioned “Adopt an Ash Tray” or clean up groups and I strongly believe that it should be enforced and would be so beneficial not to Earth along but the campus image. I don’t know about you but many people, as well as myself, love being outside when the weather is nice and relaxing on the DMZ or in the courtyards; think about it, do you want to go out and lay in the grass when its covered in cigarette butts?
