Music while studying?

What is your ideal studying mode like? When it is time to study, do you go to a quiet room such as the library or your bedroom, or do you need background noise? Last class this topic was brought up and many people had different opinions and study habits. Some people need to be in complete silence when they have studying to do, others choose to listen to music, and some like simple background noise but have to make sure there is nothing going on that's going to be too distracting. Many studies were done to test if listening to music while studying is harmful or beneficial. Some say that if you stick to a specific type of music for each time you study, when you hear that style of music you will get in the mode of focusing and paying attention to what you need to get done. Apparently there are different varieties of music that actually were shown to have improved peoples testing abilities. Many say listening to classical, calm, soothing, or instrumental music helps you focus and remember better. I'm the type of person that cannot sit in complete silence any time in my life, not only when I'm studying, but when it's time to hit the books, I don't necessarily go for the music choice. I'm kind of curious about trying new techniques of studying and I believe this well-known argument of music or no music might help me learn in new ways. I attempted to study with my favorite play list on and I caught myself getting too distracted by the lyrics rather than what I was attempting to study. Next I tried calm instrumental music, not too good of a choice either. Being tired the way it was, this music seemed like lullabies to me. I'm not quite sure if music is really a good thing to have playing while I'm studying yet but I'm going to try a few more various styles and maybe things will change. I think classical will be the next choice for study time.
